ABOUT
More About Me
I was born and raised in Wellington New Zealand but spent 16 years living in London where I trained to be a Montessori teacher, skills which continue to enhance the care I provide today.
The Montessori Method’s focus on sensory experience supports cognitive and emotional well-being by engaging the senses and memory, and helps people maintain a sense of connection to the world around them.
I returned to New Zealand in 2008 and worked as a community support worker then entered Victoria University of Wellington full time to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. My interest in all things human has always been my passion and motivation and this continues today.
I re-entered the world of care giving in 2015 and have spent the past 10 years working as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities and comorbidity with other mental health disorders, and privately as a community caregiver. I have continually upskilled, attaining my NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (level 4) Advanced Support and Palliative Care for Caregivers with Hospice NZ. I had a brief spell in 2019 living back in the UK working as a community support worker supporting a diverse range of individuals with complex needs but was drawn home to New Zealand by the threat of Covid-19 – no better decision did I make!
I am now Urban Angel and am committed to providing effective, high-quality in-home respite care, allowing family members to take a much needed and essential break. With over a decade of experience in caregiving and continuous education and training, I specialise in providing personalised care and companionship to elderly and individuals with personal care needs.
Whether it's post-surgery recovery, managing physical disabilities, or addressing complex care requirements, I am here to help. My approach is rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep commitment to improving the quality of life for the individuals and families I support.
Outside of caregiving, I enjoy all the activities that Nelson has to offer including walking, paddleboarding, tramping and camping and the wonderful live entertainment on offer. These interests often allow me to connect with those I support on a personal level, bringing joy and warmth to their daily lives.
